When your children grow up, be happy - you've done something right. Good parents have a desire to see that their children have a healthy, safe and overall good childhood, with the hope of them having a great start on their adulthood. For some that desire to see their children doing well leads them to becoming overbearing, and overprotective.
I know how it feels to be moving towards an empty nest. As your children grow up they begin to do things without you or your assistance and their independence may make you feel left-out. When I look at my children, I am amazed! Not only because of their individual accomplishments, but because it seems just like yesterday that they were little kids in elementary school. Time certainly does not wait on anyone, but one thing I know for sure is that parenting does not end at eightteen. As long as you are living and you have a relationship with your child - you will always be parenting. Whether directly or indirectly you will always be parenting, and creating new memories. They will continue to learn things from you, and you will surely learn some new things from them. This is a new phase... let it happen, let them go... let them learn.
